Micaella Pedros is a French designer based in London whose practice spans collectible furniture, lighting and sculpture. Through material transformation, craftsmanship and symbolic expression, she creates limited-edition and unique works in which function, material intelligence and meaning converge. Her practice encompasses original collections, commissions and site-responsive collaborations, and is distinguished by an ability to reveal new possibilities within overlooked matter while considering the emotional and metaphysical presence of objects.

BIOGRAPHY

Micaella Pedros is a French artist-designer based in London. She creates collectible furniture, lighting and sculpture. Her practice spans material transformation, product design and symbolic expression, navigating the relationships between form, function, impact and meaning.

Whether working with materials discarded by industry or with wood carrying the memory of land and growth, Pedros approaches transformation as a means of revealing latent potential. Her work considers how matter, once transformed and given singular form, can alter our perception and change the way we see.

The first strand of her practice is material-led and experimental. Working with overlooked and discarded matter, including wood offcuts, plastic bottles and other waste, she uses craftsmanship to create sculptural furniture and collectible objects that reconsider how value is assigned and reassigned. This inquiry has led to the development of original processes such as Joining Bottles and, more recently, the Plastic Stitch Welding Technique.

The second strand of her practice centres on symbolic expression and the metaphysical intention of the work. Pedros seeks to create an impact beyond the object itself: on the mind, on perception and on the ways we relate to the world and the materials that compose it. In Joining Bottles, this intention took the form of empowerment: an accessible technique through which discarded matter could become a resource for individual agency. In her more recent work, she engages with abstract concepts that exist independently of function, treating grain, form and material as carriers of story, presence and symbolic meaning.

Through what she describes as Design pour l’esprit - Design for the soul, Pedros considers objects not only through their physical function, but through their capacity to carry intention, evoke inner states and create forms of connection between the tangible (body) and the unseen (spirit). Her ambition is to contribute to a culture in which design does more than fulfil practical needs: it can nourish inner life, shift perception and inspire a more meaningful relationship with ourselves, with matter and with the world around us.

Pedros holds an MA in Design Products from the Royal College of Art and studied Industrial and Product Design at ENSAAMA in Paris. Her work has been exhibited internationally by leading galleries, museums and design institutions, including the Design Museum of Barcelona, CODA Museum, Mint Gallery, Aram Gallery, Material Matters and the London Design Festival, as well as through the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen’s Pure Gold worldwide touring exhibition.  She has led workshops teaching her Joining Bottles technique and developed site-responsive projects with institutions including the British Design Council, MAD Museum in New York, the Institute of Making at UCL and Arthouse Jersey. Her work is held in institutional and private collections and has been featured in influential publications including Wasted: When Trash Becomes Treasure by Katie Treggiden and Radical Matter: Rethinking Materials for a Sustainable Future by Kate Franklin and Caroline Till.
