ALTARS
Contemporary Ritual Furniture
“I see my Altars as gates of connection. They tap into the world of imagination, spirituality and rituals, beyond materiality.”
Influenced by initiation journeys around the world that nourish my own spirituality, the making of Altars brings together my personal and design practices, connecting the physical and the spiritual, the abstract and the tangible, the sculptor and the designer.
The Altars anchor and support the creation of a sacred space within a room and within the Self. Handcrafted from locally grown and sometimes tropical reclaimed wood, these pieces carry with them a connection to the physical and subconscious landscapes. Grain, figure, species, and form are approached as carriers of stories, memories, and symbolic meaning. In this way, each altar becomes a meeting point between us, our inner-space, the land, the materials that emerge from the land, and potentially Spirit.
Designed to elevate crystals, icons and meaningful objects, giving them their own place, presence and importance.
Each altar takes on a distinct sculptural architecture, using height, rhythm, wood grain and proportion to stage what it holds.
Made from wood sourced responsibly, each altar draws on the symbolic and folkloric associations of trees as sources of life, protection, memory and connection between worlds.
